MK Dons captain Keith Andrews was named League 2 Player of the Year at a lavish awards ceremony in London on Sunday evening.

The Dons' talismanic skipper emerged victorious from the Football League Awards Incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players at Park Lane's Grosvenor House Hotel.

Andrews, 27, was the highest-ranked League 2 player in the prestigious list at 38, beating Chesterfield striker Jack Lester and Peterborough hotshot Aaron Mclean to the honour.

The midfielder maestro becomes the second Dons player to win the award in as many years, after former striker Izale McLeod scooped the gong last season.

Andrews has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career this term, guiding the Dons to the top of the division and to a Wembley appearance next month in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final with a series of all-action displays.

His tally of 11 goals in 33 appearances makes it by far the Dubliner's most prolific campaign, while his dominant midfield performances have brought widespread admiration from both supporters and the media alike.

The club would like to extend its sincerest congratulations to Keith on winning the award.

MK Dons had interest in two other awards last night - the League 2 Family Club of the Year won by Wycombe Wanderers and Liam Kelly's nomination as League 2 Apprentice of the Year, won by Grimsby Town's Ryan Bennett.
