MK Dons inflicted Ipswich's first reserve defeat of the season with a comfortable 3-0 win at Woughton.

Mark Wright's first-half penalty plus goals from Reis Ashraf and Dan Powell after the break secured three Pontin's Holidays Combination points for a strong Dons side in blustery conditions.

Wright was one of several first team squad members that got fitness-building time on the pitch, while full-back Carl Regan made a successful return from a hamstring injury.

It was a second reserve victory in a row for the Dons reserves, but the first time Ipswich have dropped points in the competition all season.

From the moment the game got underway, it was always going to be a matter of which team coped with the conditions as a howling wind swept through the training ground.

Mark Wright puts the Dons in front with a first-half penalty.

It spoiled the game to a degree, with neither side able to put much by way of flowing football together and both goalkeepers struggling when up against the gale.

But Dons got the start they were looking for when Gareth Edds' chipped ball to the left found Dan Powell, allowing the youngster to drive into the box.

Powell was far too strong for Chris Casement, who chopped him down allowing Wright to dispatch from the spot.

Dons 'keeper Nathan Abbey made a fine save when one-on-one with Gary Roberts shortly afterwards, but while the midfield battle raged, chances were few and far between.

With the wind at their backs in the second period, the Dons took control and John Miles nearly doubled the lead, lobbing just over the crossbar from Wright's clever pass.

Switched from defence to midfield after the break, Luke Howell scuffed a decent chance wide from and Edds cross on the hour mark but further goals would come.

Town's difficulty in putting the Dons under pressure highlighted how well the home side had done to take a lead into the break against the wind.

Reis Ashraf scores; MK Dons Res 3 Ipswich Town Res 0

Reis Ashraf scores with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

While Roberts showed plenty of impressive touches, they lacked the cutting edge missing 32-goal striker Jordan Rhodes might have given them.

Ashraf exploded into the game on 71 minutes, just a minute after replacing Wright off the bench.

Taking possession as Ipswich struggled with the conditions, the young work experience player unleashed a terrific 20-yard shot into the bottom corner with his first touch of the ball.

Powell rounded off the scoring nine minutes from time when he converted Ashraf's cross from the right - a reward for a series of driving runs from the Dons youngster from the left flank.
