Second half goals from Reis Ashraf and Sam Collins saw a young MK Dons reserve side stun Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Ashraf continued his impressive run since joining the club on work experience, chipping a delightful opener on 52 minutes before Collins rammed in a second with 12 minutes to go.

It was a fantastic response from the young Dons outfit, who bounced back from last week's 4-2 defeat at Colchester to complete a Pontin's Holidays Combination double over Mick Harford's men.

Up against a Hatters side including the experience of Steve Robinson, Richard Langley and Darren Currie, the Dons acquitted themselves superbly once they got into the game - defending bravely while showing the composure to pass the ball under pressure.

Daniel Powell and Daniel Delderfield both went close with first-half efforts while Charlie Barnett's 20-yard free-kick came within a whisker of opening the scoring.

At the other end, Dons 'keeper Kurt Fox was frequently called into action, making a string of excellent saves to keep the home side at bay.

Ashraf opened the scoring seven minutes after the break, scampering clear onto a through ball and cooly chipping over Laurie Walker - the goalkeeper on work experience with Luton from the Dons.

Collins rounded off an excellent performance down the Dons left by adding the second on 78 minutes, rifling home from the edge of the area after controlling a superb crossfield pass from Ollie Thorne.

Assistant Academy director and first team goalkeeping coach Paul Heald, who took the team at Kenilworth Road, said: "It was a solid performance from the boys, but the most pleasing thing from my point of view was that they did the simple things well.

"Last week against Colchester they didn't manage to do that so it's great to see they're listening and taking on board what's being said.

"The game started a bit hectic but once the lads settled they looked comfortable. When the two Charlies got on the ball in midfield we looked capable of making things happen.

"Kurt did really well when called up and he had to make four or five good saves in the match from a very experienced Luton team.

"Considering how young a team we had out, the boys looked solid throughout and the second goal was just desserts for a very good performance."
